About the Organization

Centre for Rights of the Differently Abled (CRDA) is a student-run Centre of Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad which has enabled all the students of the institution to showcase their interest in disability laws. The Centre provides both social and academic fora to develop this interest, and in doing so, hopes to create and sustain an inclusive environment for persons with disability. In an effort to strive towards achieving its objectives, CRDA aims to organize a National Webinar on “Life Post Pandemic for Persons with Disability” on 15th August 2020.

About the Event

The language we use is influenced by our perception of things. And more often than not, most abled people and people outside academia have very little knowledge about the struggles of persons with disabilities. Life Post Pandemic for Persons with Disability aims to understand disability from various standpoints and give its attendees a wider perspective during this time of pandemic.

This webinar will host leading persons from academia, policy, medicine, sports, business, and fashion. Each panellist will be speaking for about 20 minutes and will throw light on the opportunities, struggle for the person with disability post pandemic. Further, will motivate and inspire the participants with their experiences.  Each discussion will be followed by an interactive session with the participants of the webinar.

 PANELLISTS:

  1. Shanmukha Rao
    Social  Activist and Paracyclist, (Hyderabad, India). Mr. Rao is a social activist and para-cyclist and has become a great source of inspiration and passion to prove that nothing is impossible. He has covered over 5000 kms by cycle till date and has also ran his first marathon in Airtel Hyderabad Marathon 5k run. He has also participated in 39 marathons till now and one of his major achievements was the Infinity Ride from Hyderabad to Bangalore, covering 570 kms.
  2. Prateek Khandelwal
    Bangalore-based Entrepreneur who started the #RampMyCity campaign on social media (Bangalore, India). In pursuit of his happiness and well-being, Mr. Khandelwal has been successful in defeating all odds against him and was instrumental in founding the RampMyCity accessibility initiative that provides inclusivity through ramps and adequate human training. He is also the founder of ‘I Break The Barriers’ Pvt Ltd., a not-for-profit social enterprise providing end to end physical accessibility solutions for the differently abled in India in public and private sectors.
  3. Varija Bajaj– Founder, Varija Life (Delhi, India)
    Founder of Varija Lifestyle. Under Varija Life, Ms. Bajaj has been involved in awareness programmes for persons with disabilities pan India.  The BE THE CHANGE awareness campaign that is conducted focuses on the inclusion of physically and mentally challenged and targets the youth in order to emphasize on recognising abilities of the diabled. Ms. Bajaj has been honoured with the Delhi Gaurav Award for her immense contribution to the fashion industry by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister for Science and Technology. Apart from this, her laurels also include the Women’s Achievers Award for Fashion by the Young Environmentalists Trust, Mumbai, the Build India Award and the Brij Ratan Award in 2018. She has also been announced as ‘Women of the Year 2018’ by DLA Honours 2018 Media.
  4. Manasi Joshi– Indian Para-Badminton Athlete (Mumbai, India). 
    Ms. Manasi Joshi. She is a para-badminton athlete who started playing badminton from the age of six. She has represented India in various Championships. Some of her laurels include the gold medal in the 2019 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships in Switzerland, the silver medal in the 2015 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships in England and the bronze medal in the 2017 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships in South Korea, the bronze medals for the 2018 Women’s Singles in the Asian Para Games and the 2018 Thailand Para-Badminton international Women’s singles.
