Arnab moves SC challenging Bombay High Court order

  • Bombay HC refused to grant interim relief to Republic TV Editor-in- chief  Arnab in the 2018 abetment to suicide case.
  • The chief Judicial Magistrate, Alibaug permitted the Maharashtra police’s crime branch to interrogate him daily for three hours.

Protection from arrest given to 2 accused by Allahabad HC

  •  The Allahabad HC has provided immediate relief to the two persons accused of treason.
  • The court stayed the arrest of the accused Ahmed Ali and Suherbur Rahman till the filing of a police report. However, the HC has refused to quash the FIR.

Assault on YouTube: Kerala HC grants anticipatory bail to dubbing artist, other activists

  • The case is that, Bhagyalakshmi and the other two trespassed into the loge of Mr. Naire and assaulted him for making derogatory and sleazy remarks against women on his YouTube channel.
  • Justice Ashok Menon ordered that they be released on bail in the event of their arrest.

Formal application not necessary to avail right to default bail

  • An accused would be entitled to default bail even if he has not specifically mentioned section 167(2) in his bail application, provided other statutory condition are met, said the court.
  • Justice Vibhu Bakhru has highlighted “ in case where the statutory period of sixty days or ninety days has expired, the accused would be entitled to be released on bail provided he meets the condition as set out there in- that is, he is prepared to furnish and does furnish bail. It is important to note that is no provision requiring him to make any formal application”.

Coronavirus: Cheers around Pfizer vaccine prudently welcomed by UK PM

  • As promising results come from Pfizer vaccine, UK’s PM Boris Johnson, cautiously welcome this. However, has warned people that it is still very, very early days, they must not rely on this news as a solution.
  • 40-million doses of the Pfizer vaccine have however been pre-ordered by UK which enough for almost a third of UK’s population.
  • The vaccine has proved to be 90% successful after being tested on over 40,000 volunteers.
  • England is set to follow tiered lockdown system after December 2, until which lockdowns rules shall be strictly followed.

To end the Karabakh war, a deal is brokered by Putin, also brought Turkey into Russian Caucasus

  • After Azerbaijani army defeated Americans at the 44-day war over Nagorno-Karabakh region, a deal is brokered by Putin to end the war by stopping the fight and withdrawing their forces.
  • Under the agreement between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and American PM Nikol Pashinyan, nearly 2,000 troops as peacekeepers have begun to be deployed by Russia.
  • Conditions for long-term and full settlement of the crises around the disputed region will be created by the accord.
  • A strategic triumph for Turkish President Recep Tayyip is represented in the accord, although the president is not a signatory to the deal.
  • Turkey was able to muscle into Russia’s Caucasus because of Recep’s vocal support of Azerbaijan in the fighting.  

Ryanair’s max order might be affected by EU tariffs on US-made-jets

  • As EU applies tariffs (15%) to US-made-jets, the Boeing Co. 737 Max delivers, long deployed by Ryanair Holdings Plc will now face new hurdles.
  • Expectations of Ryanair is that early in New Year, its first Max plane will be received.

House of Lords: UK PM faces heavy defeat over treaty-breaking Brexit laws

  • PM Boris Johnson lost in parliament over proposed laws under which he would be allowed to breach Britain’s EU exit treaty.
  • President-elect Biden has criticised the plan.
  • As per clauses contained in the Internal Market Bill, the ministers say are required in order to protect silicate status of Northern Ireland as UK’s part but would also break international law in a specific and limited ways.
  • In a series of defeats, the House of Lords by voting, approved to strip out the clauses from the bill.

New Antitrust laws by China, turn up heat on internet giants

  • Foe the first time, detailed regulations are laid down by China in order to root out monopolistic practices in the internet industry.
  • A feedback on raft of regulations is asked by country’s antitrust watchdog, that establish a framework for curbing anti-competitive behaviour.
  • Targeting specific customers through online behaviour, is also restricted by the regulations.

Pfizer vaccines in early 2021,Spain to get first says by health minister

  • Spain would get the first vaccines developed by U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in early 2021, Health Minister Salvador Illa said on Tuesday.
  • The country would initially get 20 million vaccine doses, enough to immunize 10 million people, Illa said in an interview with state broadcaster TVE.
  • The vaccination would be free, Illa added.

US troop withdrawal deal, Taliban asks Joe Biden to stick with it

  • Afghanistan’s insurgent Taliban on Tuesday called on the incoming administration of US President-elect Joe Biden to stick to the February agreement to withdraw US troops.
  • The United States has been pulling out troops under the deal which envisages the withdrawal to be complete by May, subject to certain security guarantees, while the Taliban holds peace talks with the Afghan government in Doha.

Myanmar win in resounding election, claims by ruling party Aung San Suu Kyi’s

  • Myanmar’s ruling party claimed a resounding victory on Monday in the second parliamentary election since the end of oppressive military rule, according to its own unofficial tally of votes.
  • Sunday’s election was viewed as a referendum on the fledgling democratic government led by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and her National League for Democracy (NLD), which won a landslide in 2015.
  • The Election Commission had been expected to release results on Monday but had only published a handful by the evening, as candidates and parties posted their own data online.

Diwali with no crackers in Lucknow, 12 more cities of UP with poor air quality

  • On Tuesday Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari directed all district magistrates for strict compliance of order banning sale and bursting of firecrackers by National Green Tribunal (NGT).
  • The said authorities has admitted cities including Lucknow with extremely poor quality of air. In the order directed there would be ban on sale or use of firecrackers and the direction would apply to all cities where there is poor quality of air.

Police books 223 Gurjar agitators in accordance of protest for quota in Rajasthan

  • Reservation protest by Gurjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti in Rajasthan continues and is 10 days old where the protestors have now started to block Mumbai-Delhi railway tracks in Bharatpur.
  • The protest is for inclusion of Gurjar reservation in the ninth Schedule of the Constitution and also give 5% reservation to MBC’s in the pending process of recruitment. The Police has registered case against 223 agitators for blockage of railway tracks.

Foreign Secretary Shringla meets with Maldivian leadership for bilateral meetings

  • On Tuesday Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had a number of meetings with the Maldivian leadership with a view to discuss ways for strengthening India’s relation with the said nation.
  • Foreign secretary Shringla reviewed Rs 1.3 billion worth of bilateral package and also met the leadership of opposition Progressive-Congress Coalition. The opposition expressed support for further strengthening of the India Maldives relations.

Complaint filed against Goa professor for outraging religious sentiments

  • The Goa police have registered a complaint under section 295A of the Indian penal Code against a professor for allegedly enraging religious sentiments through a mangalsutra and burqa post on Facebook.
  • The professor later insisted that it was not her intention to hurt the religious sentiments of the people and to ridicule the same.

All banks accounts to be linked with Aadhar by March 2021 – Finance Minister

  • On Tuesday Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has asked banks to make sure that all the bank accounts are linked with Aadhar number of the individuals by March 2021.
  • She also stated that all banks should discourage payments through non-digital means and should rather promote digital payments including use of UPI for payments.

23 Indian Sailors, has been stuck at China’s Jingtang port since June

  • The Vessel Jag Anand sailed from the port of Gladstone in Australia on may 26 & reached Jingtang port on June 13.
  • Union minister Ministry of shipping raised the issue of repatriation of the Indian crew member with their Chinese counterparts.
  • The official said, that the Chinese authorities have not prevented them from leaving the port in case their condition worsens.

Bihar Elections 2020 : NDA in Lead, but Nitish Kumar might lose

  • Major Relief to Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal- United , which was on the verge of losing power earlier in the morning.
  • Nitish Kumar might not get the post of chief minister due to reduced JDU seats, sources said.
  • Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said, “when all the results come, the NDA will be able to form the government”.

Godrej Group announced its Financial Housing Company:

  • The Godrej Group, one of India’s leading conglomerates, announced its entry into the financial services industry.
  • With Godrej Housing Finance (GHF), the Group aims to build a long term, sustainable retail financial services business in India, aiming for a balance sheet of around Rs 10,000 crore in the coming three years a report confirmed.
  • Godrej Housing finance will offer fair, fast and flexible home loans across India starting with customers in Mumbai, NCR, Pune and Bangalore.
  • GHF will partner with developers including Godrej Properties, to build a superior financing experience for their existing and new customers.

India’s export market may decline due to Covid wave attacking again:

  • Most of the engineering exporting companies were functioning at 60-70% of capacity and exports had touched 60-70% and were steadily rising, said Murali Shankar Sambasivam, director at Super Auto Forge, but a second wave could mean serious trouble for the sector.
  • There is concern about a dip in sales after a relatively good month in September.
  • A second wave of Covid-19 (outbreak) in Europe is extremely concerning as we export over 65% of our goods, of which Europe constitutes 20%,” said the director at Super Auto Forge.

Siemen’s Energy to discontinue support to build Coal- fired Power Plants:

  • It will continue to offer bridging technologies like gas-fired plants and components for efficient combined heat and power, waste heat and Bio-mass co-firing projects.
  • These technologies include sector coupling to drive the energy transition and thus support the reduction of global warming, with Power-to-X solutions and green hydrogen as the main elements.

Deutsche Bank to sell IT units to TCS:

  • The largest IT service provider in India, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is acquiring Postbank Systems AG, which offers IT services to Deutsche Bank. As part of the deal, TCS will acquire 100% shares of Postbank Systems and integrate its 1,500 member team effectively.
  •  The Company also pleased to welcome the acquisition deal. Both companies have a history of working together. The transaction is subject to both parties finalising further agreements by December as it is also subject to government acceptance and its regulations.

Hindalco reported profit revenue from Operations:

  • The World leader in Aluminium rolling and recycling company named Novelis Corp. posted a record high operating profit in the quarter ended September, aided by targeted cost control initiatives and favourable metal costs.
  • This prompted a few analysts to maintain their bullish investment stance on parent Hindalco Industries Ltd.
  • Excluding tax-effected special items, the company’s net income was down 1% over the year earlier, confirmed a report.

Vietnamese GP to be cast aside off 2021 F1 calendar

  • Vietnam’s formula 1 race was called off this year due to this pandemic and will not even be held in 2021 due to local issues
  • The calendar is yet to be confirmed by the governing FIA’s world motor sport council
  • Portugal’s Algarve circuit, Imola in Italy and Turkey’s Istanbul track could be getting Vietnam’s slot for 2021
  • The Rio circuit is controversial for environmental reasons and no work has been started yet
  • The season is set to start with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 21
