Draft guidelines for advertisements – an attempt to safeguard the interests of the consumers.

The legislature has come out with a complete arrangement of draft rules on advertising under which ‘disclaimers’ that are not effectively observable by or readable or effectively justifiable to a normal customer will be treated as ‘misleading advertisements’ under the Consumer Protection Act.

The infringement of these rules would be taken note of by and dealt in the Central Consumer Protection Authority.

The draft rules, on which the Consumer Affairs Ministry has sought public comments on are pertinent to organizations whose items or services are promoted, advertisement agencies and endorsers.

As per the draft rules, a disclaimer ought to be clear, sufficiently conspicuous and readable. The disclaimers used in notices ought to be in same language and font as is the advertisement.

On the off chance that the case is introduced as voice over (VO), at that point the disclaimer ought to be shown in a state of harmony with the VO

Apart from this, a disclaimer must not conceal material facts and information which is imperative in nature.

It also states that the terms “free”, “without charge” or other comparable terms must not be used, if the buyer needs to pay something besides the expense while buying an item or service for conveyance of the equivalent.

On the individuals who support ads, the rules suggest that they should take due consideration to guarantee that all portrayals, cases and correlations that they underwrite or that are made in ads they show up in, are fit for being impartially determined and are equipped for validation.

How NEP is trying to make India a knowledge economy?

It is believed that the said move will ensure a wholesome growth of the youth of the country, both in terms of knowledge and skill formulated.

This move will ensure that quality education with diverse subjects and approaches are introduced to the Indian education system which, sadly, relies a lot on traditional methods of rote learning and the like.

It would be interesting to see how and what policies and rules for such international institutions are, and the regulation of it takes place.

There is a lot of debate surrounding the same, with interesting propositions from both ends.

This is the first time something of this sort is taking place in the education sector.

Sri Lanka assessing environment damage from oil tanker fire

Scientists are ordered to determine whether a three-day fire on a giant oil tanker off its coast damaged the marine environment by the government of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

On Sunday, Ships and helicopters from Sri Lanka and neighbouring India extinguished the fire on the MT New Diamond carrying nearly 2 million barrels of crude oil. The fire killed one Filipino crew member and injured another.

Although the main fire has been extinguished, occasional small-scale fires are taking place from time to time. Firefighters have doused them as they continue spraying water to cool the ship, Said Indika de Silva (Navy spokesman).

Terney Pradeep, The general manager of Sri Lanka’s Marine Environment Protection Authority, said the scientists from state agencies and universities will prepare a risk assessment, including the potential for an oil leak. The authority plans to take legal action over the fire.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera directed officials to prepare cost and environmental damage assessments.

With its engines shut down, the tanker drifted to within 20 nautical miles (37 kilometres) of Sri Lanka’s eastern coast on Friday before a tugboat towed it farther out to sea.

Meanwhile, 10 British and Dutch professionals, including rescue operation specialists, disaster evaluators and legal consultants, reached the scene and were waiting to board the tanker to begin the mission of salvaging the ship. The experts were sent by New Shipping Ltd., the commercial owner of the New Diamond in Athens, Greece.

The tanker had 23 crew members, 18 Filipinos and 5 Greeks. 21 crew members left the tanker uninjured as the fire burned.

The fire began in an engine room boiler but did not spread to the t tanker’s oil storage area and no leak has been reported. Sri Lankan officials had warned of possible massive environmental damage if the ship leaks or explodes.

The tanker was transporting crude oil from the port of Mina Al Ahmadi in Kuwait to the state-owned Indian Oil Corp. which has a refinery (the Indian port of Pradip).
