Gujarat Court dismisses the case regarding violating lockdown in Bhopal

  • Police officials of Bhopal Police filed FIR against two people regarding violation if lockdown.
  • They included Section 269 of Indian Penal Code in the FIR .
  • Court observed that the case is not filed as a private complaint but it’s a charge sheet under Section 173 of CrPC.

High Court of Delhi will decide if DU can charge 750 for issuing digital degrees

  • University informed the HC regarding the charges of issuing of the degree.
  • Few petitions from students have been filed regarding the late issuance of degree.
  • Next hearing will be on 14 December

It’s unconstitutional to have NRI quota in NLU

  • High Court of Orissa gave the decision that it’s totally unconstitutional if NLU’s to have NRI quota.

PMO made it clear that PMNRF is not a Public Authority under RTI Act.

  • Replying to the RTI application filed by Abhimanyu Srivastava PMO made it clear that PMNRF doesn’t come under Public Authority of RTI.
  • In his application Abhimanyu asked for the information related to the trustee of the PMNRF trust and documents related to how this fund constituted and if ever a member of opposition became trustee of the PMNRF trust

China may not recognize British-issued Hong Kong passports

  • Foreign Ministry of China said it might not recognize British-issued passports for Hong Kong residents
  • This was done in reprisal for London’s moves to open a path to citizenship for those holding the documents.
  • Britain violated its promises and played up the issue of the British National (Overseas) passports, said the Ministry’s spokesperson

Britain signs first major post-Brexit trade deal with Japan

  • Britain’s tariffs on Japanese cars in stages to zero in 2026 are now removed by this deal.
  • The deal marks as UK’s first big post-Brexit deal on trade.

Sri Lanka: Controversial 20th Amendment passed 

  • The amendment foresees expansive powers and greater immunity for the Executive President
  • It was passed in Parliament with a two-thirds majority
  • The Amendment as per opposition threatened to take the country on the path of authoritarianism, giving the President unbridled powers.

  • The two warring sides in Libya’s long-running civil conflict signed an agreement to put in place “a permanent cease-fire in all areas of Libya”.
  • It was a historic achievement and a turning point towards peace and stability in Libya as per UN. 

Poland abortion ruling: Police use pepper spray against protesters

  • Protests arose in furtherance of a ruling from the top court that declared abortion as unconstitutional. 
  • Implying that abortions will now only be allowed in cases of rape or incest, or to protect the mother’s life.
  • Pepper spray and physical force were used after some protesters threw stones and pushed through the cordon said the police.

Punjab CM’s son summoned by ED in alleged illegal foreign funds case

  • Punjab CM Amarinder Singh’s son Raninder Singh has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday in connection with alleged Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violation.
  • Earlier, Raninder had appeared before the ED in 2016 and was reportedly asked to explain the alleged movement of funds to Switzerland and creation of Jacaranda Trust and subsidiaries in British Virgin Islands.

UPSC Prelims 2020 result announced within 20 days

  • The results for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Prelims 2020 for Civil Services and Indian Forest Services have been declared.
  • The exam was held amid the coronavirus pandemic on October 4. About 10.58 lakh candidates had registered for the UPSC Civil Services Examination prelims. The CSE Main will be held from January 8, 2021.

Republic TV booked for ‘inciting disaffection’ against Mumbai Police chief

  • The Mumbai Police on Friday registered an FIR against Republic TV for allegedly inciting “disaffection” among the police personnel against Commissioner Param Bir Singh and maligning the city police’s image.
  • The channel’s Executive Editor, anchor, two reporters and other editorial staff members have been booked. The channel had claimed there was a “revolt” within the force against Singh.

Live-ins will rise if girls’ marriageable age raised: Muslim League’s women wing

  • The Muslim League’s women wing has written to PM Narendra Modi opposing the proposed move to increase the legal marriageable age of women from 18 to 21 years.
  • The letter stated that it would give way to “live-in relationships” and “illegitimate relations”. It added that many developing countries had brought down the marriageable age considering the biological and social needs.

Our inability to appear before JPC may have been misconstrued: Amazon

  • Amazon has issued a statement saying the company’s inability to appear before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) may have been misconstrued and led to a misunderstanding.
  • “We have utmost respect and regard for the important work being done by the JPC,” Amazon added. BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi earlier said that coercive action could be taken if Amazon failed to appear.

Remdesivir becomes first drug to be fully approved for COVID-19 by US

  • The US Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved Gilead’s antiviral drug remdesivir for treating patients hospitalised with COVID-19, making it the first and only drug approved for the disease in the US.
  • Remdesivir was given to President Donald Trump this month when he was diagnosed with COVID-19. It was originally developed as a treatment for Ebola and Hepatitis C.

Benchmark for the efficacy of COVAXIN is 60%: Bharat Biotech

  • The benchmark for the efficacy of India’s first coronavirus vaccine candidate COVAXIN is 60% and the efficacy results should be available by early April-May 2021, said Sai D Prasad, President-Quality Operations, Bharat Biotech.
  • “WHO, US FDA and even India’s CDSCO approve a respiratory vaccine if it achieves 50% efficacy; for COVAXIN, we aim to achieve at least 60%,” Prasad added.

Bharat Biotech’s ‘COVAXIN’ gets approval for phase 3 trials in India

  • Covaxin, the coronavirus vaccine being developed by Bharat Biotech and ICMR, has received the approval by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to conduct the third phase of clinical trials.
  • The study would cover 28,500 participants aged 18 years and above across 10 states. The Serum Institute of India began phase 3 clinical trial of Oxford vaccine last month.

Flipkart to buy 7.8% stake in Pantaloons parent company for ₹1,500 crore

  • Walmart’s Flipkart has agreed to buy a 7.8% stake in Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, which operates over 3,000 stores including the Pantaloons brand, for ₹1,500 crore. Flipkart will also sell and distribute various Aditya Birla Fashion’s brands.
  • “This partnership is an emphatic endorsement of the growth potential of India,” Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said.

For Maritime Reconnaissance missions first women pilots batch, Indian Navy.

  • On October 20th the women pilots completed their Dornier operational flying training and become the first women pilots’ batch of Indian Navy.
