LEGAL NEWS

1. Central vista project: only allowed to conduct bhumi pujan ceremony nothing more

  • A petition filled in supreme court challenging the central vista project. The case was still before the court but Bhumi Pujan ceremony for the new parliament building to be held on December 10 , 2020 .
  • Supreme Court aggressively contempt the action by saying though there is no stay order , you cannot go ahead with everything.
  • The solicitor general guaranteed that there will be no demolition, no construction or even translocation of tree.

2. Supreme Court refuses to quash FIR against Amish Devan

  • Journalist Amid Devan had called Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti, better known as Khawaja Ghreeb Nawaz, an “attacker”, against this statement many FIRs was filled across country.
  • He was charged with sections 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), section 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) and  section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian penal code.
  • Supreme Court on hearing the quashing request from the side of Amish Devan, the court refused to quash.

3. SSR murder case: plea to investigate within two months

  • A writ petition was filled to break the silence on the side of CBI in the investigation of Sushant Singh Rajput murder case.
  • The petition urged the court to direct the CBI to investigate the case and report it within two months.

4. Law student moved to Supreme court against comic artist

  • A fifth year law student through her advocate seeking imitative of Cr.P.C against the comic artist Rachita Taneja for her tweet that depicting Supreme Court being hand in glove with the ruling party, BJP.
  • Attorney general KK Venugopal states that the tweet undermine the public confidence in the independence and impartiality of the Supreme Court of India and giving consent to move forward.

5. Supreme court refuses to postpone Kerala local poll

  • The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a petition filed by Kerala MLA PC George seeking the postponement of local body polls in the State that starts in two days.
  • The court expressed their view that though there is rise in covid cases in Kerala, we cannot postpone the election of the mere fact.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. Germany, France, 11 other EU countries team up for semiconductor push

  • The European Union agreed to allocate 145 Billion Euros which is equivalent to a fifth of its virus economic recovery fund for digital projects.
  • The signatories include Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal and Slovenia.

2. Sinovac targets for 600 million dose capacity for COVID

  • Sino Biopharmaceutical Ltd. bought a 15 percent stake in Sinovac for USD 500 million investments.
  • The company is currently organizing the last stage of clinical trials for its vaccine candidate in Indonesia, Brazil and Turkey and is one of the frontrunners of the vaccine efforts of China.

3. Queen Elizabeth II of UK to ‘stand in line’ for Covid-19 vaccination

  • Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip will “wait in line” for the first round of the Covid-19 vaccinations reserved for the citizens aged above 80.
  • Care home residents, health and care staff, the elderly and the clinically extremely vulnerable will receive the vaccine on priority basis.

4. China launches new Earth Observation satellite

  • A new Earth Observation Satellite was launched by China from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in Sichuan province.
  • The satellite, Gaofen-14, was sent into orbit by a Long March-3B carrier rocket.
  • This launch was the 354th mission of the Long March Rocket Series.

5. US post office will be named after slain Sikh Police Officer

  • A post office in the US city Houston will be named after Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal, the first Sikh Deputy in Texas’s Harris County who was shot dead while on duty in September 2019.
  • The bill has been sent to the White House for President Donald Trump to sign into law.

6. Mohsen Fakhrizadeh:Iran scientist killed by a ‘machine controlled gun’

  • A satellite-controlled machine-gun with “artificial intelligence” was used to kill Iran’s top nuclear scientist, says a Revolutionary Guards commander.
  • Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was shot dead in a convoy outside Tehran on 27 November.

7. Most parts of the US state of California are under a new strict lockdown

  • As Covid-19 continues to surge across the country.
  • The stay-at-home order, affects around 85% of the state’s 40 million people. It will be in place for at least three weeks and cover the Christmas holiday.
  • Many businesses remains closed, and people will be banned from meeting anyone outside their household.

8. Talks between the UK and EU have resumed

  • As the two sides make a final bid to reach a post-Brexit trade deal.
  • Disputes over fishing and business rules are continuing, but the UK government said agreement was “still possible” with time in “short supply”.
  • The EU mood was described as “gloomy” as chief negotiator Michel Barnier met UK counterpart Lord Frost in Brussels.
  • UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will speak to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen later.

1. Modi’s new statement : Can’t build new century with old laws

  • PM Modi stated against the farmers protest.
  • He said that reforms are necessary for development.
  • Old laws that have been rooted from a century has become a burden now.

2. Section 144 imposed in Assam regarding Indo-Bangla border

  • Deputy commissioner Keerthi Jalli,  issued the order on Monday.
  • Restrictions are imposed on people who ply boats on the surma for fishing.

3. “Bharat Bandh” supported by INLD

  • INLD leader says the reformed farm laws are only for the benefit of corporate.
  • They also says that the centre should take back these laws and bring back the guarantee of minimum support price.

4. Jammu and Kashmir employees united to criticize the new rules of retirement

  • Jammu and Kashmir government introduced the new rules of retirement.
  • The new rules states that the government employee will retire after completion of 22 years of service.

5. Bombay High Court orders: virtual education for specially abled students

  • The High Court says,  that the duty to ensure online classes for specially abled students is the liability and duty of Maharashtrian government.
  • The suggestions are made to use local government channels of television and radio for online education.

6. Five suspected terrorists arrested by Special Cell in Delhi

  • Five suspected terrorists, two of whom are from Punjab and 3 are from Kashmir, were arrested today on Monday morning in East Delhi’s Shakarpur area.
  • Arrest was done after an encounter and the suspects revealed that it is the Pakistan spy Agency ISI’s attempt to link up terror outfits in Kashmir with Khalistan operatives.
  • The two Punjab – based men were involved in the killing of Balwinder Singh in Punjab.

7. Advisory issued by Home Ministry for ‘Bharat Bandh’

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued advisory to all the states and Union Territories to maintain peace and tranquillity during Tuesday’s all-India strike called by farmers’ union.
  • All have to ensure that all Covid-19 guidelines are strictly followed.
  • ‘Bharat Bandh’ is against the three farm laws passed by Parliament in the September monsoon session.

8. 2022, Deadline for new Parliament building as per MoHUA

  • The construction of new Parliament building is set to start this month. The deadline for completing the same is the 75th year of independence, i.e., 2022.
  • The government of Monday gave an undertaking to the Apex Court that it would not carry out any construction, demolition or transplantation of trees till the court gives its verdict.

9. No long waiting’s for COVID-19 vaccine: PM Modi

  • PM Narender Modi, while addressing at the inauguration of construction of Agra Metro project via videoconferencing, on December 7 said that the country will not have to wait too long for the corona virus vaccine.
  • He also cautioned people that there should be no carelessness as far as prevention   of virus is concerned.

10. Farm laws to be challenged in Supreme Court by Kerala

  • Kerala government will challenge the controversial farm laws in the SC within two days.
  • The Kerala government is not ready to imply farm laws in the state and are planning discussions with other states for a joint protest.

1. Indian lottery business has a Rs. 50,000-crore problem

  • The Supreme Court in a recent ruling said that GST is applicable on the sale of lotteries, gambling, and betting.
  • This would mean that 28% of GST would be applicable to the sale of lottery tickets.

2. Simplifying Tax Rules in the Ease of Doing Business Index could improve India’s position

  • India could look at simplifying tax regulations such as Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) and Tax Collection at Source to improve its ranking in the global ranking for doing business, said a research report.
  • As per the research report by Deloitte, India’s overall ranking gets pulled down due to a lower score in the taxes department.

3. Since the appointment by CEO Delaporte, Wipro has rotated 70% as a stock reserve

  • He’s trying to turn around the struggling business without letting the Covid-19 pandemic slow him.
  • He mostly focused his attention on customers, meeting with 130 over video conference, and helping to land new multi-year contracts with clients in the U.S. and Europe.

4. Tata Chemicals surges 7%, hits new high

  • Continuing its upward movement, Tata Chemicals stock rallied 7 present to hit a new high of Rs. 527 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Monday.
  • Shares of Tata Sons have risen 16 present in the last two days after the promoter bought an additional 2.57 million shares worth Rs. 121 core through the open market.

5. Franklin warns investors against losing  4 bn windows up plan

  • Franklin Templeton Asset Management (India) Pvt. Investors warned of potential losses if they vote against its plan to wind up more than $4 billion of debt funds it froze earlier this year.
  • Electronic voting will take place from Dec. 26 to 28 on the asset manager’s plan, according to a statement from the company Monday.

SPORTS NEWS

1. National Basketball Association (NBA) and Harman Brand announced a multiyear partnership in India:

  • As an official sound of the NBA in India the Harman Brand (UBL) will introduce a number of NBA elements in the Country.
  • The partnership will let fans interact with the popular Harman brands while watching basketball in every NBA match.

2. George Russell becomes the international car racer becomes a new star after his victory on Monday:

  • George Russell the international car racer tipped for formula 1 stardom as revals call for level playing field.
  • He became a new star on Monday after his stroming drive for Mercedes in Sunday’s Sakhir Grand Prix. 
  • Team chief Toto Wolff hailed and was impressed with George . “It would not have been his last attempt for victory, I would say that a new star has been born” said Toto Wolff.

3. ISL 2020:  In FC Goa v. Kerala Blasters , FC Goa won with the score of 3-1 which was their first victory in the Indian super league:- 

  • FC Goa registered its first win of the Indian super league after a victory over Kerala Blasters on Sunday.
  • “ Fox in the Book” Angulo just had 26 touches on the ball, Kerala blasters struggled from open play. 

4. American basketball league: Minnesota Timberwolves hiring hall of Famer Rudy as a personnel consultant:

  • The Minnesota Timberwolves announced the hiring hall of Farmer Rudy Tomjanvich as a player personnel consultant on Sunday. He is a retired basketball player and hall of fame coach .
  • The 72-year-old was elected to the memorial basketball Hall of fame in 2020. He coached the Rockets for 12 seasons and led them to back to back NBA championships in 1993-94.   

5. Horse racing Tips: Templegate returns with his best bets for Monday at SouthWell , but it is to Southwell he goes for his nap of the day:

1. Pakistan: Patients with Covid-19 die in Peshawar due to oxygen shortage

  • After oxygen supplies ran extremely short, six coronavirus patients died at a hospital in Pakistan.
  • A delay in deliveries meant more than 200 patients were left for hours on reduced oxygen.
  • Pakistan is currently battling a new wave of coronavirus cases, with more than 400,000 infections and more than 8,000 deaths recorded since the epidemic started.

2. Iran says the scientist was killed by a satellite-controlled machine gun

  • Via a satellite, it was “controlled online” and used an “advanced camera and artificial intelligence” to establish the target, he added.
  • Fadavi said that the head of security of Fakhri Zadeh took four bullets “as he threw himself” at the scientist and that “no terrorists at the scene”.
  • Iranian authorities have blamed the assassination on arch enemy Israel and the exiled opposition party the People’s Mujahedeen of Iran (MEK).

4. Diageo’s revival programme for the hospitality industry finds more takers in the ongoing festive season

  • Under its global “Raising the Bar program,” the company unveiled a Rs 75 crore fund in June to assist the hospitality industry as they prepared to reopen following the relief of coronavirus restrictions.

5. The Indian Navy rescues the missing MiG-29K pilot’s body

  • The Indian Navy’s MiG-29K fighter trainer jet suffered a sea crash after which one of the two pilots was lost while the other was rescued.
  • The body of the missing MiG-29K pilot, Commander Nishant Singh, was found by the Indian navy on the seabed at a depth of 70 metres.
